Watson Jay Young Jr

Watson “Jay” Young, Jr., age 79, of Marion, passed away Friday, March 1, 2024, at Wyndmoor of Marion.

Jay was born in Marion, Ohio on October 30, 1944, to the late Watson Jay Sr. and Ruth (Mitchell) Young and graduated from Harding High School. When Jay was only two years old his mother passed away. His father remarried Opal Spurgeon who raised Jay as her own.

 

Shortly after graduation, Jay caught Cathy Richmond's eye at a mutual friend's house while trading silver money. The two were married 30 days later on May 19, 1968, in Waverly. Cathy and Jay were getting ready to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary before her passing on March 24, 2018.

 

Jay worked for Quaker Oats for 19 years, Huber Manufacturing for seven years, and retired from Honda of America in after 12 years of dedicated service.

 

In Jay’s free time, he could often be found fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and his grandchildren. He and his wife were long-time members of Oak Knoll Baptist Church in Marion. Jay was always willing to lend a hand at the Church and spent countless hours on maintenance projects.

 

Jay will be missed by his children, Jeffrey Alan (Vickie) Young of Mount Gilead, Oh., and Jennifer Ann Young of Colorado; grandchildren, Keith Alan Young of Galion, Oh., Jeffrey “Alan” Young Jr. of Mount Gilead, Oh., and Adam Jay Young of Mount Gilead, Oh., great-granddaughter, Gracelynn Young and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Jay is preceded in death by siblings, James Young, Mabel Stover, and Romaine Gilllispie.

 

Visitation will be held at Snyder Funeral Homes, Gunder/Hall Chapel, 347 W. Center St. Marion, on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 12pm until 2pm. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Pastor Nicholas Worden officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Jay’s honor to Oak Knoll Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
