James "Jim" Uline Obituary

James Blaine “Jim” Uline, 80, passed away peacefully into his heavenly home on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the Meadows of Marion after a long period of declining health. Born on October 14, 1945, in Marion, OH, he was the beloved son of James A. and Viva (Swisher) Uline and the cherished grandson of William Blaine and Bessie (Bush) Swisher. Jim graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1963 before proudly serving in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he attained the rank of SP5. On June 10, 1966, he married his devoted wife, Hope (Buchanan) Uline, beginning a loving and steadfast union that lasted nearly sixty years. Together they built a life grounded in faith, family, and service to their community. Jim’s professional career included time with the Erie Lackawanna Railroad before he began a 35-year tenure as a Marion City letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2000. Known for his friendly nature and dedication, he enjoyed greeting residents along his route and was especially fond of offering treats to dogs he met along the way. A passionate history enthusiast, Jim spent decades researching and collecting postcards, memorabilia, and historical artifacts related to Marion County and beyond. He was a founding member of the Marion Hobby Club and earned numerous awards for his outstanding historical displays. Though life required him to forge his own path at a young age, Jim turned self-study and curiosity into a lifelong pursuit of knowledge. Jim’s greatest joy was his family, whom he loved with unwavering devotion.

He is survived by his faithful wife, Hope; his children Heather (James) McLean, James Mitchell “Mitch” (Nicole) Uline; grandchildren Madeleine McLean, Ian McLean and Spencer Robinson. His extended family includes sister-in-law Roseanna (Buchanan) Wenig, nieces, nephews, and many loved ones who will forever cherish his memory. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Truman and Roberta Buchanan, brother-in-law, Ralph Wenig, nephew, Stuart Wenig and special Aunts, Edythe (J. Robert) O’Connell and Virginia (Walter) Keck.

The Uline family would like to invite all who knew Jim to the Boyd Funeral Home for calling hours on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The memorial service will start at 7 p.m. There will be an interment service at the Marion Cemetery at a later date. Chaplain Pamela Lamb-Hart will be officiating the services. Jim’s family would like friends to consider making memorial donations to the Marion County Humane Society or Heartland Hospice Care in lieu of flowers.
