Richard Glenn Thompson

Richard “Dick” Glenn Thompson, age 80 of Marion, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

Dick was born May 10, 1944 in Marion, the son of Buchtel H. and Edith Jane (Clonch) Thompson. He was educated in Marion and graduated from Harding High School with the class of 1963.

On August 18, 1970 he was united in marriage to Sharon Lynn Bussey. They shared 45 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on June 23, 2015.

Dick was an incredibly hard worker, taking great pride in providing for his family. He served the Marion Police Department for 26.3 years, retiring on September 30, 1992. As an officer, he began his career working out in the field 10 years. He then transferred to the Detective Bureau, which he thoroughly enjoyed, and concluded his time with the department in administration. He was awarded Officer of the Year 2 times. When his shift was over at the police department, he would go work 3rd shift at Nichols Bakery and Probst Supply. He also worked at the Whirlpool Corporation, Eaton Manufacturing and built homes not only for himself but for others. Dick was a member of Cornerstone Alliance Church.

He is survived by his children: James (Heidi) Thompson of Marion and Lisa (Don) Moser of Marysville; grandchildren: Molly, Megan, and Michael Thompson, and Cambree (Rob) Mosher-Mann, Arlaina (Blake) Hillard, Noah Mosher, and Cohen Moser; and great-grandchildren: Callum and Olive.

Dick is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon Lynn Thompson; and siblings: James “Bud” Thompson, Thomas Thompson, and “Sally” Claire Ellen Clarke.

Visitation will be Monday, December 16, 2024 at Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel, 360 East Center St., Marion from 4PM to 6PM; funeral service will follow at 6PM with Pastor Matt Deeren officiating.
