Roger Eugene King

Roger Eugene King

Roger E. King YORK, PA: Roger went to heaven to be with Mom and Dad on January 20, 2016 at the age of 71. He had suffered from heart issues for a long time and they finally got the best of him. He was always a gentle guy who tried to see the best in people. If asked, he would give advice, especially over a game of pool, which he loved to play. Mom had told us that Roger was born on Kentucky Derby Day, May 6, 1944, because that was the only one she missed watching during her lifetime, but when it is your first-born child you don't mind. He and his brothers, Tom and John were raised in Kentucky but they came to Marion Ohio when Dad found a job a Pollack Steel. The boys attended Marion City Schools. Roger graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1963. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served 8 years. This was during the Vietnam War era. At one time in that 8 year period he was stationed at Norad. While in the service he saw the world. He loved to travel and any time he came home he was known to hitch hike. It was safer in the 60's to do than compared to today. After serving his country he came home and married Krista Palmiter. They lived in Harrisburg, PA. They had a son, Brandon King. Roger was so proud of Brandon and any chance he got he would speak of him. As with life, things happen and Krista and Roger divorced when Brandon was 17 years old. Krista King passed away on October 1, 2011 from Breast Cancer. Roger moved to York, Pennsylvania, and had so many friends. One of them, Shirley McKenzie, was a constant companion whom he cared for very much. He enjoyed seeing his son Brandon and was a great help building Brandon's market in Smyrna Georgia, and any other endeavors Brandon was getting started. He will be missed by his son, Brandon King; his brothers, Tom King (Terri), and John King; sisters, Paulette King Hinaman (Gary), Sandy King Corbin (Kirk) and Samantha King McElhone (John); and many nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to mention. Roger was a Gift of Life Donor and his gift will help many others in their time of need. He was that kind of guy. He was cremated and his service was handled by Etzwieler Funeral Homes and Cremation of York, PA.
