Gloria McMahan Obituary
Gloria Ann McMahan, age 80, of Marion, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026 at The Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on April 25, 1945, in Marion, Ohio, to the late Roscoe Gruber Jr. and Joanne Waters. Gloria was a devoted, lifelong member of Prospect Methodist Church of Marion, where her faith guided her life and service to others. She was educated in Marion and graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1963. Gloria spent more than 40 years serving her community through her work. She was a woman of many trades. Early on, she earned her real estate license, worked as a hand-typist from home, and was employed at the local Post Office and hospital. She later began working in the cafeteria at River Valley Local Schools, where students affectionately knew her as “the lunch lady.” She also worked at the Hallmark store, forming many lifelong friendships, and concluded her working years at Marion City Hall in the Clerk of Courts Office, retiring in the early 2000s.While Gloria was proud of her professional accomplishments, one of her greatest pride and joys came from her service as a volunteer youth group leader for the United Methodist Church of Marion. Through this role, she made a powerful and lasting impact on countless young lives—many of whom she remained close to throughout the years.
Known lovingly as “Gig,” a nickname earned early on thanks to her constant laughter, Gloria was remembered as sweet, loving, and full of joy. Though stubborn to the core, she was equally known for her heart of gold. She cherished her grandchildren deeply and would never hesitate to give them the world. One of her favorite hobbies was scrapbooking, especially creating albums filled with treasured photographs of her grandchildren. She loved cardinals and found special meaning and comfort in seeing them. Gloria was a devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan—always cheering “Go Bucks!”—and never passed up a Dr Pepper. Weekends were often filled with the things she loved most: time with her family, cheering on her Buckeyes, a little shopping, and often a stop at Tim Hortons for her favorite donut holes or chocolate chip muffin and coffee.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny Gruber and Steve Gruber, and her sister, Jacky (Les) Bowers.
She is survived by her son, Timothy M. McMahan, and her daughter, Cara (Robert) Hawn; grandchildren, Jessica (Jory) Baugher, Matt (Lindy) Jones, Krystal (John) Bowen, Nicholas (Mikaela) McMahan, and Casey (Emma) Jones; her cherished great-grandchildren, Faith, Eloise, Daxton, Emmett, Miles, Coen, Colson, and Calum; brothers, Jim (Pat) Gruber and Pete Gruber; and her sisters, Bonnie Dendinger, Donna “Tiny” Cook, and Sue (Dwight) Roseberry. She is also survived by a host of many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to her dearest friend and companion, Karla Gregory, for her unwavering love, friendship, and devoted support, which meant more than words can express.
In leu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to The Kobacker House of Columbus, Ohio.
The Boyd Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family of Gloria Ann McMahan in their time of mourning.
