Gary Baehr

WESTERVILLE: Like in all great books he read, Gary Baehr is turning the page to start the next chapter. After a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer, Gary passed away at the age of 68 on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at St Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

He was born on May 10, 1945 in Marion to the late Walter and Tressie (Brookens) Baehr and he graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1963. After some time at The Ohio State University, he later served in the National Guard before marrying his hometown sweetheart, Barbara Ann Casey in 1967.

Gary and Barbara eventually settled in Mansfield in 1972 where he worked at the Tappan Company for over 10 years before joining Mechanics Savings Bank in 1986, serving as Vice President, responsible for all security and collection activities for the bank. He was happy to say he retired early in 2007, moving to Melbourne, Florida to enjoy the sun and golf. But after five years the lure of Ohio brought him back closer to home where he and Barbara made Westerville their new home.

Always an avid reader, he could get through most books in a couple of days. Later he developed a passion for golf, which he enjoyed playing with his friends at Pebble Creek in Lexington and Bay Tree in Melbourne. When not on the links, he could be found either watching or listening to the Cleveland Indians or baseball in general and later watching his grandchildren in their sports endeavors.

Survived by his wife of 47 years, Gary and Barbara celebrated their recent wedding anniversary on February 4th by renewing their marriage vows. In addition he is also survived by his son, Matt, daughter-in-law, Laura, grandchildren, Jackson and Kendall all of Westerville; his sister Marlene (Les) Irey of Troy; as well as numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Friday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury from 5-8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:45 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday 9 a.m. at the St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9633 State Route 37 E., Sunbury with Fr David Sizemore celebrant.

God speed Dad. We love you. See you on the other side.

The DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Baehr family and condolences may be expressed at www. snyderfuneralhomes. com

The memorial service for Gary was a great celebration of his life.  Gary was a caring, humble man his whole life.  Gary had recently accepted Christ as his Savior and we will see him again in Heaven. Blessings to his family.

Gary was always kind and compassionate as I remember him in high school.  Quiet and unassuming but still a great sense of humor.  He left many good memories behind but is free of his pain now  - God Bless, Gary.
