In Loving Memory: David Edward Williamson

David Edward Williamson, born on May 29, 1945, in Marion, Ohio, concluded his remarkable journey on October 3, 2023, at the age of 78, in Winter Park, Florida. He peacefully passed away at AdventHealth Winter Park Hospital, surrounded by his loving children.

David, or Dave as he was affectionately known, was a man of exceptional qualities. He possessed a great sense of humor, and his infectious laugh and smile could brighten anyone's day. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, cherishing the moments he spent with his family.

Dave's love story with his wife, Sharon (Shary) Louise Curl Williamson, began in November 1967, with an instant attraction. Their love blossomed, and just seven months later, they exchanged vows on June 8, 1968. In 2023, they celebrated their 55th anniversary. The Williamsons were members of the First Presbyterian Church, and then later joined Epworth Methodist Church, where they remain members.

The Williamsons raised their family in Marion, Ohio, Dave's hometown, and continued to reside there until they made the move to Belle Isle, Florida in December 2021 to be closer to family. Although Dave faced the challenges of Alzheimer's disease in his latter years, he embraced each of his 78 years with a spirit of joy and gratitude, making the most of life.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Shary, his daughter Shelley Williamson St. John (Chris), son Jeffrey Andrew Williamson (Kristi Michael), and his adored grandchildren, Parker Ty St. John, Casey Rex St. John, Mercer McKay St. John, Emery Eve Williamson, and Brayden Andrew Williamson. He is also survived by his brother Jon Williamson (Maureen Grady), sister Jane Williamson Guy (Jerry), niece (Molly Williamson), nephews (Tim Williamson, Sean Williamson (Erin), and Andrew Williamson (Anita)), grandniece (Sophia) and grandnephews (Chance and Parth), and a wide circle of friends who will forever remember his warmth and humor.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Dorothy Williamson.

Educated at Marion Harding High School, Dave completed his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University. He then attended the University of Florida Law School, graduating with honors, which marked the beginning of his remarkable career. Post law school, Dave worked in Washinton, D.C., for the FCC in the Office of General Counsel.

In 1973, he then returned to Marion to raise his family, continue his career, and serve his hometown. His dedication to the community was demonstrated through his 38-year tenure on the Marion Public Library Board of Trustees, serving from 1982 to 2020. This surpassed his grandfather's legacy of serving on the Library Board for 36 years from 1927 to 1961.

Dave enjoyed a long legal career, beginning with his family’s firm, with a later break from full-time private practice to serve in the 1980’s as Marion City Prosecutor as well as Marion City Law Director before returning to the family practice full-time.

The Williamson family, known for their law office, Williamson and Williamson, Attorneys at Law, made a lasting impact on Marion, Ohio. This tax, probate, and real estate law firm served the community impressively for over 100 years. Founded in 1920 by Dave’s grandfather, J.D. Williamson, it was carried on by his father, himself, and his brother until it closed when Dave retired in 2021.

Dave's hobbies were a reflection of his love for life. He enjoyed playing tennis with his favorite partners and competitors for many years. He also cherished weekly fellowship with the Burley Boys, a close-knit group of friends who played cards together for over 40 years. These groups of friends brought him joy and support, even in the face of adversity in his latter years. Dave was also an avid supporter of Ohio State athletics, and he had a genuine passion for listening to various genres of music.

A celebration of Dave's life will be planned at a later time.

If interested, the family welcomes memorial contributions in David’s name to be made to the Marion Public Library or The Ohio State University at Marion, to honor David's lifelong dedication to his community and education.

David Edward Williamson will forever be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to family, and for his profound impact on the community he held dear. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know and love him.
